Library Carousels

Library Carousels let editors create collections of Courses and Learning Paths for learners to browse in the Course Library.

Creating a carousel defines its content and audience. Adding it to Library Carousel List includes it in the Library’s editor-created carousel selection. Its position within the wider Library page is determined by the platform’s design.

Create a collection

  1. In the CMS Content Manager, create a Library Carousel.
  2. Enter its title and, if useful, a subtitle.

    Choose a Curation type:

    • Manual: select the Courses and Learning Paths to include.
    • Tag: select Tags to collect matching learning content.
  3. Set the intended audience and any visibility filters.
  4. Add start and end dates if the collection should appear during a particular period.
  5. Save and publish the carousel.
  6. Open Library Carousel List, add the carousel and save the list.
  7. Check the Course Library as a representative learner.

Adding content to a carousel does not replace the access rules for that content.

Manual and Tag curation

Use Manual when you want to choose specific learning content.

Use Tag when the collection should draw from content carrying the selected Tags. The collection can change as content and tagging change.

Choose the curation type before building the collection. Switching between Manual and Tag changes the active selection; check and rebuild it as needed before saving.

Audience and visibility filters

Audience determines whether the carousel is available to logged-in users, logged-out visitors or both.

Visibility filters provide additional restrictions based on user information. A learner must satisfy both the Audience setting and the visibility filters.

For example:

  • A carousel available to both audiences, without user filters, can return content for visitors and logged-in learners.
  • A carousel available to both audiences with user filters requires a logged-in learner who satisfies those filters.
  • A logged-out-only carousel with user filters will not return content.

Use visibility filters to narrow the audience. They do not grant access to otherwise unavailable learning content.

Scheduled collections

A published carousel can have a start date, an end date or both.

It becomes eligible after its start date and stops being eligible after its end date. Leaving a date empty removes that boundary.

Publishing, dates and audience eligibility all affect whether the carousel is available.

Check:

  • The carousel is published.
  • It has been added to Library Carousel List.
  • Its scheduled period is active.
  • The test account matches its Audience and visibility filters.
  • Its selected content is published and available to that learner.
  • A Tag-based collection has matching content.

A collection can return different content for different learners. Some implementations hide carousels when no eligible items are returned.

If these checks do not explain the result, contact support with the carousel title, the environment and the account used for testing.

See Course Library for the learner-facing overview. Refer to your platform’s implementation documentation for personalised recommendations, page ordering and other client-specific behaviour.
