SCORM

Introduction

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a standardized format for delivering e-learning content. It allows you to develop content externally using an authoring tool, then upload and deliver it through the LMS as an integrated part of a course.

In Shapeshift, SCORM content behaves like a module, similar to lessons, quizzes, and surveys.

Once added, the SCORM content is displayed directly within the page, giving learners a seamless experience without pop-ups or external windows.

If SCORM is not currently enabled on your instance, contact support@plume.co.uk to get a quote for activation.

Key benefits

  • Seamless compatibility: Ensures that your SCORM-compliant content can be effortlessly imported into Shapeshift, enhancing your LMS capabilities instantly. The SCORM file must be v2004.
  • Advanced analytics: Benefit from real-time tracking and granular analytics, making it easier for you to assess user engagement and effectiveness of content.
  • Works across devices: Courses automatically adjust to fit various screen sizes, providing an optimal learning experience on all devices.
  • Seamless user experience: No clunky pop-ups - your SCORM courses look and feel like a part of your Shapeshift LMS, with options to enable or disable the course sidebar and navigation menu.
  • SCORM as individual lessons: If your SCORM content represents a single lesson, add it as an individual step within your Shapeshift authored course.
  • Easy to update: Changes to SCORM content are automatically synced across your LMS, eliminating manual updating tasks.
  • Free to host: No need for separate SCORM cloud hosting services - just upload to your Shapeshift installation, and you're good to go!

Creating a SCORM module

  1. In the CMS, go to Content Manager > SCORM.
  2. Click + Create new entry.
  3. Enter a Title for your SCORM module.
  4. Upload your SCORM 2004 file. Once uploaded, the status will change to “Uploaded and ready to process.”
  5. Configure sidebar behavior:
    • Sidebar enabled:
      • True    – Sidebar is available.
      • False    – Sidebar is hidden (common for single-module courses).
    • Sidebar default open:
      • True    – Sidebar is open when the learner enters the module.
      • False    – Sidebar is closed by default.
  6. (Optional) Configure drip settings:
    • Drip enrollment offset: Number of days after enrollment before the module becomes available.
    • Available from: Specific date and time when the module becomes available.
  7. Click Save. The file will move through pending and processing states. Large files may take some time.
  8. Once processing is complete and the asset is attached, Publish the module.

Only one SCORM file can be uploaded per module. If you need to update the content, replace the file and re-save.
