Reporting in Shapeshift

Shapeshift includes built-in reporting and analytics to help administrators understand learner activity, progress, completion, assessment performance and engagement.

Reporting is powered by Metabase and can be accessed in different ways depending on the level of access your team needs.

CMS dashboard

The CMS homepage can display an embedded reporting dashboard.

This dashboard is read-only and is designed to give administrators quick access to the most useful platform metrics without needing a separate reporting account.

The exact metrics shown depend on how your platform has been configured and which features you use.

Typical reporting can include areas such as:

  • Learner enrollments
  • Course progress and completion
  • Quiz performance
  • SCORM performance
  • Learning activity and engagement
  • Organization-level performance

Advanced reporting with Metabase

For users who need to explore data in more detail, direct access to Metabase can be provided.

Metabase allows advanced users to:

  • View additional dashboards
  • Explore the data behind charts and metrics
  • Create custom questions
  • Build additional dashboards
  • Apply filters and drill into results
  • Schedule reports
  • Configure alerts

Direct Metabase access is typically provided only to users who need more advanced reporting capabilities.

Scheduled reports and alerts

Metabase can be configured to send reports on a schedule, such as daily or weekly.

Alerts can also be configured for individual metrics so users can be notified when particular conditions are met.

These features are configured directly within Metabase and may vary depending on your platform setup.

Reporting for Organizations

Where enabled, Organization Owners can access a reporting dashboard from their Management Dashboard. Like the dashboard embedded in the CMS, this is a read-only Metabase embed rather than access to the full Metabase reporting environment.

The dashboard must be specifically configured so that Organization Owners can only access data belonging to their Organization. Owners can view the available reports, use any filters provided on the dashboard, and download individual questions as CSV files.

The reports, filters and data available depend on how the Organization dashboard has been configured.

Exporting reports

Reporting data can also be exported when needed.

Dashboard views can be exported as PDF files, while individual questions and data tables can be exported as CSV files for further analysis.

Different platform configurations

Shapeshift includes a broad set of reusable reporting metrics, but not every metric will be relevant to every platform.

Your reporting dashboards can therefore be configured around the features, learning structure and data that matter to your organization.
